A Safe Space for Young People in Knowle West

Every Monday night, children aged 8 to 15 in Knowle West have somewhere free and safe to go. St Barnabas Church’s Safe Hangout Space offers football, basketball, craft and a hot meal to finish every session.

“Parents in this community struggle financially. They struggle for spaces to send their children,” says Rev Clive Hamilton. “We just wanted to provide them with a safe, free space.”

The drop-in has grown by following what the children want. Parents have noticed the difference: children who are more settled, more respectful and more willing to engage.
